Why Learn to Surf in Port Fairy?

Port Fairy brings together a long sandy surf beach, sheltered waterways and one of Victoria’s most distinctive coastal towns. East Beach gives beginners room to learn, while the nearby Moyne River, Griffiths Island and working harbour make it easy to build a memorable day around the water. Whether you are visiting for the school holidays, a weekend escape or a Great Ocean Road journey, a GO SURF lesson offers an active way to experience Port Fairy’s coast rather than simply look at it.

Port Fairy Surf Lesson Meeting Point:

Meet at the East Beach toilet block on Beach Street, approximately 200 metres past the Port Fairy Surf Life Saving Club. Your coaches will fit your wetsuit and board before beginning the beach-safety and skills session. Conditions can change, so GO SURF may confirm a nearby alternative location when required for safety and lesson quality.

Why Choose Go Surf in Port Fairy?

GO SURF has been continually locally owned and operated by Keith Curtain and Fiona Hampson since 2010. Port Fairy is our home base, and our experienced team has helped thousands of children, adults, families, schools and community groups enjoy the coast with greater skill, confidence and awareness.

  • Safety, surf awareness and ocean literacy built into every lesson.
  • Warm wetsuits and quality beginner softboards included.
  • Supportive instruction for first-time and returning surfers.
  • Public summer programs plus year-round options for groups of six or more.
  • A genuine locally owned Port Fairy experience.

School Surf Programs & Group Surf Lessons

GO SURF works with primary and secondary schools, camps, youth organisations, workplaces and community groups visiting Port Fairy and South West Victoria. Choose surfing at East Beach, stand-up paddleboarding on the Moyne River, or a combined coastal program tailored to your group’s age, experience, timetable and learning goals. Equipment, wetsuits, qualified coaches and clear safety documentation are provided.

Surfing is the medium. Education is the outcome. Our programs use the coast to develop confidence, resilience, water safety, teamwork and practical ocean awareness.
