SURF LESSONS & SURFGROM PROGRAMS
Participants need to be water confident to join our surf lessons. It is our expectation that participants can:
- Float unassisted
- Submerge without fear (open eyes underwater and demonstrate breath control i.e. blow bubbles underwater)
- Free movement – move around confidently in an ocean environment independently and in a group situation. (Lessons are conducted with minimum 1 instructor to 8 surfers so it’s not a one on one lesson.)
Participants don’t have to be competent swimmers but they need to be comfortable in waves and falling off in waist deep water. All beginner surf lessons are conducted in shallow water (waist depth) only. This allows those with a limited swimming ability to participate in surf lessons & SurfGrom programs, enabling them to develop their skills and confidence before moving up to the next skill level.
STAND UP PADDLEBOARD LESSONS
Our Intro to SUP lessons are conducted close to shore. Participants don’t have to be competent swimmers but they need to be comfortable falling off in chest deep water.
Our 2hr Stand Up Paddleboard Lesson & Tour is conducted in deep open water but we have life vests you can choose to use. All participants should be able to swim to participate.

We recommend an average/moderate level of fitness. You don’t need any experience. Most adults are easily able to complete the circuit. We don’t recommend it for anyone with knee, hip or related health issues. You will be out in deep water. We have the 1hr ‘Intro to Sup’ lesson option for anyone not sure they can complete the Tour.
-
Surfers and stand up paddleboarders need to wear a swimsuit or boardies and bring a towel and lots of sunscreen. There are no change rooms or toilets at some of our locations so have them on. Don’t forget a camera to document the fun you will have with your Go Surf lesson!

All equipment is provided, including surfboards and paddleboards suited to your abilities. Our equipment is the best available on the market and produced specifically for surf schools. We use soft, stable boards that are easy to balance, paddle, stand, and surf on for intermediate and beginner surfers.
Quality Rip Curl and Quiksilver wetsuits keep you warm and coloured GO Surf School rash vests easily identify you in the water. Wetsuits are provided for all lessons except ‘Intro to SUP’ and hires.
